The good kid in the m.A.A.d. city won this week. He managed to move 242k+ units according to HitsDailyDouble.com. GREAT numbers for a debut album in this digital day and age.
Shout out to Taylor Swift. Her numbers ain't nothin to eff wit...
With the arrival of the Nets in Brooklyn an uncivil war is now raging in NYC between diehard Knicks fans and newborn Nets fans. Which team best represents the city? Who will bring home the first NBA championship for NY in this new era of two New York-based basketball teams? It's the beginning of a beautiful rivalry as the opinions -- and profanity -- fly fast and furious.
Elliott Wilson, of RapRadar.com, breaks down the word classic for you. The term itself is becoming both overused and taboo at the same damn time in the Hip-Hop community. We take a look at Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city and Nas' Life Is Good. Compare and contrast. Think about other classic albums.

Of course there are more, I could probably go for days...but how does Kendrick Lamar's DEBUT fair? What about Nas' Life Is Good?
Do these recent releases deserve Classic status? #BlameKendrick
This banger produced by Key Wayne and Young Chop is a definite GO! Big Sean delivers per usual in the flow category and the hook is for the win...look for this to be smashing airwaves and 106th & Park stages in NO time. All G.O.O.D.
Loso is "So NY" that he has decided to share just how about this life he is. Let's follow him to "Sons of Essex," a restaurant located in Lower East Side.
MTV continues to push forward with their This Is How I Made It series. This second episode features Olympic Gold Medalist, Gabrielle Douglas and Independent Mega Artist, Mac Miller. Dope back stories. But that's usually true of winners, right?
Chrisette, where have you been all my life? Should I blame Def Jam? Ok, we'll blame Def Jam.
She brings to us her latest, "Charades," after a prolonged break from the game. I like the track, but (and get your recorders out) I'm not feeling the two verse from our favorite playa pahtnah 2 Chainz. I know, I know. I'm surprised too. I usually like everything from dude, but this doesn't fit. I'd like to hear a Wale (obvious pick) or if we're going to stay in-house maybe a Jeezy or Big Sean... It just feels a little forced. We'll blame Def Jam for this too.
Overall, JP gives it a 5/10. Either way, I'm glad to see Chrisette Michele is back in the booth. Elle Varner was about to start stealing her fans something serious. What do YOU all think of the song?
Brooklyn's own Maino stopped by The Breakfast Club yesterday. I will say this, it seems dude really has matured. By leaps and bounds though. Good stuff Main...now, let's get these records poppin.
Elliott Wilson, of RapRadar.com, pretty much summarizes Kendrick Lamar's tender career. And poses a few discussion questions about his latest project, released just yesterday. Damn, Hip-Hop does move fast.
Live from the campus of Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, the golden men of the 2012 United States Presidential election met face-to-face for the final time to debate foreign policy. The exchanges were smooth, overall. But you be the judge.

Newz Huddle is back on your favorite blog with "the flow of the century." Big Sean's "Mula" serves as the backdrop, as Newz paints us a very vivid picture. Let's just say this, he'll never make the newz again...
Everybody's favorite Haitian, Wyclef Jean sat down with the world's most infamous morning crew. Gotta give 'Clef his props. After the past few weeks he's been having, I would've never showed my face at the Breakfast Club. He has guts.
They discuss Wyclef's picture, his book, the Fugees of course, and uh everything else he has going on.
When Whitney Houston died earlier this year, her
family and fans alike were devastated. After the singer’s untimely death, word
spread that Houston’s family would do a reality show. Many people were not
supportive of their decision including myself. What good could come from a show
centering on Houston’s family? After all, the media and the public built up
Houston’s image and then ridiculed her once she went through her troubled
times. The same should be expected once Houston’s relatives appear on
television. Once they invite those camera crews into their homes, they cannot
control what will be filmed. My suggestion is that they should remember Houston
as the gifted singer and beautiful sister, mother and daughter she was instead
of proving to the public that her flawed character was a thing of the past.
We have all heard about Rihanna and Chris Brown getting
back together. Is anyone really surprised by the news? Although Rihanna has been
dated multiple celebrities, the public consensus was that her heart still pined
for Brown. Chris also seemed to be in a serious relationship with his former girlfriend
Karrueche but he released a public statement indicating that they were no
longer together. What is the fascination with the two singers? Is it because
their relationship could be considered toxic and harmful? Is it because the two
stars are young and popular singers that love being in the spotlight? Rihanna’s
talent is mediocre at best. Her career is made off of reinventing herself and
singing catchy pop tunes while acting out in a bizarre manner. Her association
with Chris Brown may be the most fascinating thing about her. On the other
hand, Brown has a substantial talent but many people still seem him as an
individual who is really violent and has a really bad temper. Only time will
tell if the two of the together does more harm than good or vice versa.
I'm trying to keep it alive and not compromise thefeeling we love
You trying to keep it deprived and only co-sign what radio does – Kendrick Lamar
Comparing the two may seem blasphemous to many but it has never been so appropriate until now.The narrative painted from Queen Bridge (Illmatic) to Compton is almost in sync with “good kid, m.A.A.d. city”.Illmatic is a classic and nobody can debate that, so don’t try, albeit, it is Hip-Hop’s artifact.
Former Pretty Ricky front man, Marcus "Pleasure P" Cooper sat down with The Breakfast Club this morning. They discussed past relationship with Bria (Eddie Murphy's daughter), new music, past allegations, and upcoming project, Marcus Cooper...
?uestlove of legendary, Philly-grown Hip-Hop band, The Roots, has been offered an adjunct professor position at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts next semester. He is scheduled to, with Universal Music Enterprises vice president of A&R and Grammy winning reissues producer Harry Weinger, co-teach a course titled 'Classic Albums'.
The two credit class will focus on the concept of what it means for something to be called classic or seminal, as well as take a close look at the music, lyrics, production, business aspects -- such as promotion and marketing -- that informed the release and reception of the album, and try to provide a context as to why these albums have stood the test of time, according to Jason King, associate professor of recorded music and head of history and criticism at the Institute, who confirmed the course.
The class is expected to look at albums by Sly & The Family Stone ( Stand!, There's A Riot Goin' On), Aretha Franklin ( Lady Soul), Led Zeppelin ( IV), Prince ( Dirty Mind), Michael Jackson ( Off The Wall), and the Beastie Boys ( Paul's Boutique), among others.
President Obama and Governor Romney went toe-to-toe again last night at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Curated by Candy Crowley (CNN Chief Political Correspondent), there were moments when the Town Meeting format discussion on domestic and foreign policy got a little tense.
Watch now, as the candidates touch on topics that undoubtedly affect you...and they prep for their next public bout, scheduled for Monday October 22, 2012 from 9:00-10:30pm EST at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.
So, Bobby V showed up to Power 105's Breakfast Club looking like a damn fool, and sounding sus. Smh. He got fried by the most dangerous morning crew and discussed his personal and professional future.
Wait... Hol' up. Never mind. You just have to watch the video yourself.
Andy Reid promised that changes were coming for the Philadelphia Eagles, and he didn't wait long to back up those claims.
The Eagles announced Tuesday that they have dismissed defensive coordinator Juan Castillo from his duties and have named secondary coach Todd Bowles as their new defensive coordinator.
"I want to make it clear that I have nothing but the ultimate respect for Juan Castillo as a coach and as a person," Reid said in a statement released by the team. "He's one of the finest football coaches that I have ever worked with. He has served this organization extremely well for 18 years and letting him go was a difficult decision. I know he will continue to be a successful coach in this league and wish he and his family nothing but the best.
"We're six games into the season and average isn't good enough. I know the potential of our team and insist on maximizing it."
My take: If anything, our defense has been keeping us in games. We've played exceptional on that side of the ball this year.
Andy, I've always been a fan. But your clock is ticking my friend. You cannot continue to place the blame on everyone and everything else. Your words aren't matching your actions.
Jay-Z shares why it is important to exercise your right to vote and how President Obama represents the power of our voice. As Jay-Z shares: "For so long, there was this voice that was silenced out there as far as exercising your right to vote. I think it was a voice that was silent because people had lost hope. They didn't believe that their voice mattered or counted." "Now people are exercising their right, and you are starting to see the power of our vote. He made it mean something for the first time for a lot of people."
Jay-Z's Life + Times Youtube Channel staff is working harder than yours...and ours! Check out the latest segment they've developed with the help from the OG Elliott Wilson of RapRadar.com. In this episode, the Hip-Hop journalist GOAT discusses reaching MCs.

Jay-Z's Life+Times YouTube channel officially launched off on Friday with a look into the process of making the Barclay's Center happen. History...in less than 7 minutes.
I know this is just a song...but Ye, I'd recommend talking to Kris Humphries, before you make any decisions. You might have way more to lose than dude.
Big Sean sat down with NBC NiteCap's Peter Bailey...again. The young player from the D discusses spending money, saving it, President Obama, clothing, his former personal relationship, saying no in a room full of yes men and Hall Of Fame: Memoirs Of A Detroit Player.
Meek Mill and Big Sean set a few innocent items on fire in the latest presentation from Maybach Music Films, courtesy of Dre Films. Just when you thought the song was hard, the video...that much harder. Pause.
The Wild Boy himself, Bad Boy Record's Machine Gun Kelly ROLLED UP to Power 105.1's Breakfast Club. They discuss his antics, Molly, Ciroc and the music of course.
Oh, and by the way, MGK literally ROLLED UP and lit that ish...AT THE STATION...they cut that part out. LOL!
LACE UP on iTunes shelves RIGHT NOW. Go and get it.
Gucci Mane LaFlare came through The Breakfast Club. Some interviews with The Breakfast Club go well, some not so much. Awkward moments with Gucci here, but nonetheless the group discusses music. And that's that.
Press play to understand. Leave those comments in the C-Section.
The Untouchable Maybach Empire dropped this jewel yesterday. Clearly one of the best tracks on Ricky Rozay's God Forgives, I Don't. Wale and Drake both made physical appearances in the clip directed by Director X.
The Black community lost its way. I said it. The Game was once so eloquently quoted saying, "faggots are not real men". This is the culture that has defined masculinity and now it's up to us to redefine the norm and inspire an alternate reality. How dare an entire generation of African Americans disenfranchise another minority group for being different. Just 45+ years ago, that would have been us fighting for equality.
This post comes as a response to a video that emerged of two kappas getting married.
Black twitter, without missing a beat, imploded.
Why is homophobia such a taboo topic that inspires such negative emotion and attracts slander like no other within our community?
At the root of the Black community was the church. Nowadays, it seems the church is less and less important to hold our community together so why are we still using biblical allegory to support rhetorical contradictions? Today, Black men and women act as a catalyst to slander each other in a form of cultural cannibalism. Dream Hampton says it best, "as a community, we must continue to press for a culture free of hypocrisy and condemnation". Homophobia is a malignant cancer that can destroy an entire culture seeking to disenfranchise, dehumanize, and marginalize. Black men get married everyday. This caught so much heat because of their Greek affiliation. As a direct result, non-Greeks jumped into the slander pool with a skewed perception of Greek life. Greek organizations are still community based and don't conduct intake based on a HATE for any group of people. In that regard it seems we have all lost our way. In an effort to change our mantra, hopefully this post will incite a new trajectory in the discourse regarding homophobia, paraphobia, and xenophobia.
It's been reported The-Dream has been appointed the VP of A&R at Def Jam. How major is that?
And here's what Mr. Terius Nash had to say about that...
“I am committed as I have been previously to bringing the power of belief in the artist back to the forefront. I share a unique view of an artist and as well as the business of music. I, with the help of many others, have ran a successful business for the last five years in the midst of the “Digital Change.”
My concentration and effort will be to the artist to succeed in their dreams and goals. I’ve been a part of watching and participating in the success of many great women and men including Beyonce, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion to name a few. Music means more than just a download, it’s life to the culture and also the people who listen. This is a new exciting yet critical time for music – ‘You Meet Change with Change!’”
"As long as you have the hottest acts, you'll be the hottest label." - the next up.
New music from G.O.O.D. Music's Pusha T, "Pain" features a hook from Future. Produced by Yeezy. 1/2 of the hardest duo ever ... no shots ... should be looking forward to that Def Jam solo, debut pretty soon, right?
