@RUVilla Presents #LoveStory

A few nights back, I personally stopped by Villa in North Philadelphia to check out the screening to a documentary a group of my peers were responsible for making happen. The short film is called The Love Story, and it focuses on the new Philadelphia "renaissance" especially highlighting a self-proclaimed group of younger movers and shakers in Philadelphia.

Apparently sponsored/facilitated by The Villa, the film's quality was impressive. And the turnout was solid. It was rumored to be an introductory film to a series of sorts, featuring a diverse group of creative renaissance activists here in the City of Brotherly Love. I have to say, once the credits began to roll, I looked for more. The delivery was tight. Kudos to everyone involved.

I have a few theories about the Ms. Mona Scott-Young. No matter what I FEEL about her, the fact of the matter is, she's a boss in her own right, and her track record is not only impressive, but very long. She stopped by The Combat Jack Show to discuss her past, present and future...what else?

*cue "Monster" by Nicki Minaj and Company*

In her most in-depth interview ever, Love and Hip-Hop creator Mona Scott-Young discusses the passing of her former Violator Management partner and friend Chris Lighty; addresses the criticisms of Love & Hip-Hop head on; talks about when rap stars like LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes were real larger than life stars and how she’d really like to work with Maino. Dr. Marc Lamont Hill and MC Lyte Speak On Christopher Dorner via CNN [Video]

Hip-Hop heavyweights Dr. Marc Lamont Hill (#Yo) and MC Lyte sat on a panel to discuss America's Most Wanted, Christopher Dorner. Lauren Ashburn upset me. I'll state the facts, she's a Caucasian female. In modern day America, she represents a very "protected" species. Her preaching "law and order" further attests to (yet another) fact that she is either disconnected to reality and does not realize the severity of police brutality OR she is on the LAPD payroll. Just a social media jab, I understand all points...but then again, I am one of the few that chose to acknowledge them.

ESPN SportsCenter Featured:

Long ago, a shoe endorsement was the pinnacle of an athlete's commercial success. Then, Michael Jordan arrived and became the first athlete to be a "brand." After the first pair of Nike "Air Jordan" basketball shoes rolled out, the former Chicago Bulls guard elevated his profile from superstar to transcendent, cross-over commercial icon. Now, almost 30 years since the first sneakers debuted and nearly a decade since Jordan retired as a pro athlete, his brand endures and continues to perpetuate his basketball legacy.
