Chalked City: Howard University Suspends All Athletics?!

This JUST in, Howard University has suspended each and every one of its intercollegiate athletics teams. Why? Great question, it appears to be over a violation of NCAA rules.

It is with great regret that we have temporarily suspended intercollegiate athletic competition. This is a self-imposed action while the University conducts a review. We are working quickly to resolve this issue.

- University spokeswoman, Kerry-Ann Hamilton

To self-impose a cross-program suspension, this situation has to be something very real. What the hell is going on down there?!

Done Deal: Paramount, Meet Youtube. Youtube, Paramount.

Mega site YouTube, and Paramount Pictures have agreed to a deal to digitally make approximately 500 motion pictures available to rent online. The prolonged agreement was inked just a few moments ago, even while Viacom, Inc. and Google parent companies of both parties continue to feud over an astonishing $1 billion lawsuit. Big Business.

Paramount is the fifth major studio to join YouTube's online video store, leaving 20th Century Fox as the lonely stoner amongst the group of a rapidly developing online film library.

The Paramount films will be available on YouTube Rentals and Google Play. This undoubtedly creates more leverage for the Youtube x Google machine as they look to further infiltrate other online movies and pay-per-view options such as competitors like Apple Inc.'s iTunes store, Amazon.com Inc.'s website and the subscription video service from Netflix Inc.

"Paramount Pictures is one of the biggest movies studios on the planet," said Malik Ducard, director of content partnerships at YouTube. "We're thrilled to bring nearly 500 of their films to movie fans in the U.S. and Canada on YouTube and Google Play."

YouTube's library now sits at about 9,000 titles with the closing of this deal, which still leaves them among the smaller film streaming options. For most movies, users have up to 30 days to begin watching a video but must complete the viewing within 24 hours after starting. As some Paramount movies have already been added to the collection, you can expect more (Martin Scorsese's "Hugo," Michael Bay's "Transformers" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" trilogy) to be made available within the next few months.
