Celtics vs Heat Playoff Preview and Predictions

As all my friends and most twitter followers know. I am not a fan of the Celtics. (twitter: ShizzLakerfan) And am not very fond of Lebron James. Not that i dont think he is a great player. But i feel like a lot of his fans give him too much credit, dismissing his lack of accomplishments in the Playoffs and at the end of games.

The Perkins trade has me a little less confident in the Boston Celtics. If you would have asked me before the trade what i thought. I would have said Celtics in 5 or 6 Easy. But now with the Cs relying on Shaq and J. O'neal down low I'm not as confident as I was earlier in the season.

But, with all that being said I am still sticking with Boston to win the series as much as it hurts me to say that. A lot depends on Shaq's health and Jermaine O'neal's production down low. But i feel as though the C's Defense and chemistry is a major factor. Also Rondo has a big advantage in the point guard match-up. As far as late game closing, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have the advantage in my opinion. This along with the attitude and heart that KG brings to the team.


I don't feel as though it will be an easy win. Long series, 6 or 7 games. BOSTON!

Drake lands a role on the BIG screen!!!

Drake has previously stated that he wanted to pursue acting. Well he is apparently getting his chance. Reports have surfaced that Drake has landed a role in the animated movie series; Ice Age. Now I'm almost positive you didn't expect an animated role for Drake. But nevertheless it's a role. Ice Age is a very popular series of Movies so this could be the start of something big to come for him. It has not yet been revealed what character's voice Drake will represent. The film is titled Ice Age: Continental Drift, and is set to release in July of next year. This is the fourth installment of the Ice Age series.

Drake will be joined by Jennifer Lopez, Aziz Ansari and Wanda Sykes. They are all new to the Ice Age cast.

Katie Couric Walks Away From CBS Evening News

Katie Couric has confirmed to People.com that she is leaving her position as anchor of the CBS Evening News. Couric joined CBS five years ago and made history as the first solo female prime time anchor for a U.S. network news show.

Speaking with People.com, Couric said, “I’m really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we’ve been able to do in the past five years.”

Couric’s announcement follows months of rumors that her departure from the network was imminent. She has not specified a timetable for her departure or her future plans, only remarking that she is “looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling.”

Variety and The New York Times report that Couric is planning to launch a syndicated daytime program in early 2012. All three major networks — NBC, ABC and CBS — have reportedly expressed interest in the program.

Bill Carter from The New York Times quotes a representative of Couric as saying, “ABC is a contender.”

Bidding War: Myspace.

Almost six private equity firms and companies are expected to submit bids for News Corp.'s (who also owns the Wall Street Journal...how many of you read it?) Myspace by the end of this week, according to sources close to all parties involved. A few of these companies include private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners, Redscout Ventures and Criterion Capital Partners LLC, owner of social networking site Bebo. It is expected that some firms plan to combine on bids.

News Corp. has had talks with a Chinese Internet company about a potential deal also. Online music video site, Vevo, also looked at a potential deal with Myspace, but the company's interest in the site has slowly decreased as time progresses, sources report.

One suitor said that News Corp. is seeking bids of no less than $100 million. News Corp. paid $580 million to buy Myspace in 2005. Talk about a LOSS! They can thank Facebook and Twitter for the depreciation...

Myspace has attempted to reposition itself as a hub for music, entertainment and games, but its traffic and ad revenues are plummeting. In March, Myspace traffic dropped 49% from a year earlier to 36.1 million unique U.S. visitors, its lowest monthly total since February 2006, according to comScore Inc.

The News Corp. segment that includes Myspace reported an operating loss of $156 million for the quarter ended Dec. 31, primarily because of the site's poor performance.

The pool of suitors has narrowed since February, which is when News Corp. opened MySpace's books to a broad array of companies, take note NFL Owners.

As there is no concrete suitor, or deal structure for that matter, sources say that News Corp. expects to be able to announce a deal around June.

Hacked: Sony Playstation Network Compromised

Some genius hackers have illegally obtained Sony PlayStation's online gaming records. The records included the names, birth dates and possibly credit-card numbers for approximately 77 million people who play online video games through Sony Corporation's PlayStation console, in what could rank among the biggest data breaches in history!!!

Sony, whose gaming network has been offline for six days, announced Tuesday that an "illegal and unauthorized intrusion" between April 17 and April 19 resulted in the loss of a significant amount of personal information that could be used in identity theft.

Sony warned members of its PlayStation Network and a related entertainment service called Qriocity to closely watch their credit card statements for unauthorized charges. It also told members to be on guard against email, telephone and postal scams aided by the lost personal information.

"While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility," Sony said in a blog post. The PlayStation Network, remains out of commission. In the blog post, Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold said the company has a "clear path" to restore "some services within a week."

Lakers' Ron Artest Wins 2010-2011 NBA Citizenship Award

And the 2010-2011 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award goes to... ... ...Ron Artest.

If you haven't been paying close attention to Ron Ron this season, that opening statement may sound a little abominable. However, for those devoted fans of not only the Lakeshow, but Ron Artest as well should have seen this coming from a mile away. His issue of interest is mental health awareness and his good deeds are almost too many to name.

Back in the summer, he made the decision to raffle off his 2010 NBA championship ring, the only ring he has won to date, to raise money for a mental health awareness charity. And following the Lakers' disappointing 96-80 loss to the Miami Heat on Christmas Day 2010, he did just that. He handed over the ring to a Raymond Mikkael, who held the winning ticket for Artest's raffle, which reportedly raised more than $500,000 for his Xcel University charity, which is designed to provide support to "high-risk youth with mental health issues," according to the Associated Press.

Then...

Artest told Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com that he intended to donate half of his $6.79 million salary to the same cause, stating "I’m definitely considering the whole thing, or maybe 60 percent.”

He later referenced the plan “very serious. I’ve talked to my wife about it already. It’s a powerful message. The message is about the inspiration. That’s what I want, to inspire people. People will be like, ‘Wow. Why is he doing this? Oh, that’s why. Wow. We need to help educate.’ I didn’t come [to the Lakers] for the money. Obviously I could have gone somewhere else, even a lesser market. Pay less taxes. The taxes here are freaking killing me, you know what I’m saying?”

As if that wasn't enough...

Earlier this year in February 2011, The former All-Star was hosted by Representative Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.), who represents part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. He spoke on a panel of mental-health advocates regarding the Mental Health in Schools Act, which, according to the congresswoman's office, would allocate federal grant funding for mental-health services in schools. The legislation was introduced on Thursday.

"I think it's normal to have a mental-health issue," Artest said during an interview on MSNBC. "People could call you crazy ... but it's totally normal in this day and age.

"I wanted to let the kids out there know it's OK."

Artest won for his tireless efforts to promote awareness of mental health, including fund-raising, appearing before Congress in support of Mental Health in Schools Act and his all-around advocacy on the issue. Artest also raffled off his 2010 Championship Ring, raising more than $650,000 for mental health awareness, and took part in a public service announcement in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

“Ron has such a passion for the issue, and has demonstrated such leadership he was a perfect choice for such a prestigious award,” said Doug Smith of the Toronto Star and president of the Professional Basketball Writers Association. “His work embodies the kind of dedication to important causes that NBA players have become known for.”

Got Money: Lady Gaga To Donate A Milli

Lady Gaga has partnered with the Robin Hood Foundation to launch a pair of Facebook contests to support the New York-based charity, which benefits the poor and homeless.

One of the contests is designed to increase Robin Hood‘s Likes, or online popularity for those not familiar, on Facebook. The second contest requests Facebook users, those that are fans of Lady Gaga's, to help in deciding how she should divide a $1 million donation to the Robin Hood Foundation.

Separated by five different charities tackling local issues around poverty and homelessness, fans can vote for which charity most deserves the songstress's money. The results will be tiered, with the winner receiving $500,000, the person at second place receiving $250,000 and so on. Gaga will donate $1 million in total to the five charities. Both efforts derive from Robin Hood’s annual May 9 fundraising gala, where this year Gaga will be performing. The Robin Hood sweepstakes is giving away two tickets every weekday to attend the concert. Fans are entered into the lottery by liking the page and inviting friends to join.

NFL Lockout Lifted

Ok…who else is excited?

National Football Player Association's request for an injunction was granted earlier today and teams are forced to continue operations, but the league will appeal the ruling.

U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson in St. Paul, Minn., ordered an end to the 7-week-old lockout, saying she believed the players' argument that the situation was causing irreparable harm to their careers.

The NFL will most definitely attempt to get a stay of the ruling — keeping the lockout in place — from Nelson. They have already filed a notice with the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis, questioning whether the district court exceeded its jurisdiction. To some it seems like a reach, to others…the move is justified.

The ruling will not affect this week's draft, which was put in place as the last piece of the now-expired CBA. But because there is no longer a players union — the NFL Players Assn. decertified as a union last month — the league is in peril of running afoul of antitrust laws with each decision the owners make collectively.

If the league does not get its stay and the lockout is lifted, the NFL probably would put in place the rules under which it operated last season — seeing as those rules were collectively bargained for with the players, when those players were represented by a union.

Only time will tell…or sell…tickets. Go Eagles!!!

A Picture's Worth: Farrah Franklin (Destiny's Stepchild) Mugshot

R&B singer Farrah Franklin plans to take some serious legal action against a California police department. She's made allegations of "manhandling" during her arrest in the early hours of Saturday April 23, 2011.

The former Destiny's Child (star) was taken into custody in Culver City on suspicion of disorderly conduct after cops received a disturbing the peace complaint about Franklin. Who thinks they know what she was doing???

The 29-year-old, who was released on $100 bail, insists she is innocent and has sensationally accused officers of targeting her for her race and mistreating her during her detainment.

She told Tmz.com, "I was manhandled by the arresting officers... There were no female officers on duty and I was required to take off my top and treated unfairly."

And Franklin has now vowed to take her case to court.

In a post on Twitter.com on Monday (25Apr11), she writes, "Yes, I'm okay & Yes there Will be a lawsuit ! F**K da Culver City Police !!!! You cant keep a good girl down."

Netflix, Big Business

Netflix reported a first-quarter profit of $60.2 million on Monday. Count em…I'll wait. The booming company says it has welcomed 3.3 million subscribers in the United States in a span of three months. That's record time, no literally, its fastest rate of growth yet. Netflix Chief Executive, Reed Hastings mentioned “It took us four years to get to 3.3 million subscribers, now we did it in one quarter.”

Netflix’s streaming-only service costs $7.99 a month. To keep customers paying for unlimited access to its currently massive library of movies and TV shows, Netflix must maintain its own (damn near exclusive) access to that content. Last month, it announced that it had bought the exclusive rights to a show, “House of Cards,” that Media Rights Capital is producing. This month it paid Lionsgate for the rights to stream archived seasons of the AMC series “Mad Men” and paid Twentieth Century Fox for the rights to the Fox series “Glee,” among others.

But at the same time, the pay cable channels Starz and Showtime are becoming more restrictive about Netflix’s access to their content. Netflix is trying to make the case that its streaming deals benefit all players because when users watch past seasons of shows, they are then more likely to watch current seasons shown by a cable provider or broadcaster. “We hope over time that HBO and Showtime will let us prove this proposition for them,” the company wrote in the shareholder letter.

I foresee more big moves for Netflix in the future.

#POWERMOVES For Nintendo

Nintendo has announced it will launch a successor to its popular Wii gaming console next year! As of March 2011, Nintendo has sold 86.01 million consoles since 2006 when the console was released to the public. However, in 2010 the company sold only 15.1 million game consoles globally — a 25% drop from 2009 when it sold 20.1 million units.

The company also revealed its yearly financial results for 2010, marking a big drop in net profit — $825 million — 66 percent less than in 2009.

The declining Wii sales paired with the shoddy financial results make this a perfect moment for Nintendo to announce the next version of Wii. A “2012 launch” is as vague as launch dates come, but Nintendo promised to have a playable unit, as well as more details and specifications of the upcoming Wii model, at the E3 Expo, which is June 7-9 in Los Angeles.

Thug Life: Arizona State's New Logo

Arizona State and their friends at Nike had an idea: change the program's logo to attract a younger crowd…let's look for an edgier, more 2011-ish look. And they found the look.

It was agreed to lose the Sun Devils' longtime logo, an ear-to-ear cartoon devil...





I would have voted to ditch this guy too…but they did so in favor of a "sleeker, more ominous-looking" pitchfork, sometimes set against all-black. And I have to give props, this one is way better. However, diehard ASU alum Kenneth Epich, a Chicago police sergeant assigned to the city's Area One Gang Enforcement unit, thinks they should have went a different route.

He instantly matched the new logo with the symbol that shows up in the tattoos, graffiti and hand signals of one of Chicago's largest and most violent gangs, the "Satan Disciples." He had this to say…

"The gangs adopt sports teams and wear their gear, the S.D.'s are going to adopt the (ASU) hat as their hat of choice just as soon as they see the first person wearing one."

He fears some "unsuspecting ASU grad or the nephew of a grad or just some person who was at spring training and liked the hat is going to be wearing it in Chicago and stumble upon a car load of Latin Kings (the S.D.'s rival gang), and they're going to beat the [crap] out of him or kill him just based on the fact he's wearing a hat."

Is this a valid argument? Do you favor this new logo versus the older version?

NBA "Players" Vote they want Kobe Bryant taking LAST SHOT

A recent Sports Illustrated article asked "Who do you want shooting with the game on the line?" 166 NBA players were asked, and here are the poll results:

KOBE: 74%
Kevin Durant: 8%
Dwayne Wade 3%
Ray Allen 2%
Dirk Nowitzki 2%

So this shows that Kobe's Peers still respect his "CLUTCH"
Does anyone find it interesting the NBA players did not vote "KING" James? Doesn't surprise me.
