Why Fantasia Missed The Grammys

The former American Idol winner won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Bittersweet” at Sunday’s Grammy Award Ceremony, however, the singer sat music’s biggest night out.

Monday, Fantasia called in to BET’s 106 & Park to publicly justify her absence.

“I’m going to be very honest with you,” she told the show’s co-hosts. “You know I wasn't at the Grammys last night, I’m kind of going through my own little thing…last night they were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing last night.”

Discussion Question:
Do you think it came down to deciding between having Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson perform?

Wow. I think it was selfish of her not to show because she wasn't placed on stage to sing. I'm not sure if I agree that it came down to her and Jennifer though because they sing totally different.

Doesn't matter how they sing. The Grammy ceremony is the most political in the industry, I think the bottom line is, they fit into the same demographic...African American, Female, R&B, American Idol-winning, singers...same genre too.

How different are they?
