Looked as if Kobe was wearing the # 8 last night when he faced the Phoenix Suns. Kobe scored 48 points, dropping 17 in the 4th, as he lifted the Lakers past the Suns. Kobe stat line was 48 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast, 3 stls.
This is Kobe's 108th 40 point game. This puts him 3rd all time behind only Wilt, and MJ. Kobe is also the first player to go over 40 points this season, and is the first player to score at least 48 points in there 16th year or greater in the NBA. So if anyone was questioning if he still has some in the tank, i think this answers the question.
Kobe also lead the league in scoring going into the game last night. Now he is in 2nd averaging 29.5 right behind LeBron who has 29.7 per contest. Since the start of January, Kobe is averaging 36 points per game, and shooting over 50% from the field.
Kobe also stated that his dislike for the Phoenix Suns was motivation for his explosive performance last night. “I don’t like them,” he said. “They used to whup us pretty good and let us know about it. I won’t forget that.”
STEVE NASH: “He’s the best player in the game, so you come to expect that type of performance from him, if not regularly, then throughout the season at different times,” Nash said. “He was phenomenal.”
CHANNING FRYE: “If he don’t care about his wrist, I don’t care about his wrist,” Frye said. “Everybody makes a big deal about it, but he’s been scoring 28, 30 a game. So let’s just call it what it is. He’s a great player, he’s the best individual player in basketball, and every night he comes to work. For us, we don’t like losing to the Lakers. But they came out and played a good game, and he played an amazing game.”
