Breaking News: Jerry Sloan Resignation

Utah's Jerry Sloan, the longest tenured coach in any of the four major North American pro sports, will resign in a few moments actually.

The newspaper also reports that Sloan's long-time assistant, Phil Johnson, also will step down from his post. Say this with me: "Utah is screwed."

Especially with
the whole Deron Williams situation on the table. It's not a good look over there right now. No one's job is safe.

Sloan, who turns 69 next month, announced earlier this week that he had signed a one-year extension on his contract. But the Jazz, who currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference, have been struggling lately. And the air there is thick.

They are 4-6 in their last 10 games and have not won back-to-back games in nearly a month. Sloan's system has been criticized publicly as too restrictive by his All-Star point guard, Deron Williams.

Sloan has a 1,221-803 record (60.3%) and is the only coach in the NBA to win 1,000 games with a single franchise. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009.

Say goodbye to another staple in the game.

Sloan was a staple of the Jazz and is a top 5 coach in the NBA's history. He's proved throughout the years that he's a great winner, coach and always get maximum effort from his player. You will be missed
