Remember those Reebok Easy Tone shoes? The ones with the funny looking sole that was said to increase muscle toning in your thighs, butt, hamstrings, just by walking or running in the shoe? WELL IT WAS A LIE!
The Federal Claims Commission investigating these claims made by Reebok about their product. And the outcome is -$25 Million for Reebok.
I know for sure that plenty of people, especially women, were very much interested in these shoes. Who wouldn't want a shoe that claims to tone your thighs, and butt, just by wearing them. For those who don't have time, or who choose not to endure vigorous workouts, the Reebok Easy Tone seemed to be a perfect product.
HERES WHAT THE FTC HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE SITUATION:
"Reebok made unsupported claims in advertisements that walking in its Easy Tone shoes and running in its RunTone running shoes strengthen and tone key leg and buttock (gluteus maximus) muscles more than regular shoes. The FTC's complaint also alleges that Reebok falsely claimed that walking in EasyTone footwear had been proven to lead to 28 percent more strength and tone in the buttock muscles, 11 percent more strength and tone in the hamstring muscles, and 11 percent more strength and tone in the calf muscles than regular walking shoes.” (Federal Trade Commission)
From now on, if Reebok chooses to create a product claiming to tone muscles, and possibly help a person stay fit, they will need Scientific proof to contribute to those claims.
