Kobe Bryant's Lower Merion Gym

The snow drew on Philadelphia (and surrounding area) residents last night, as its downfall created dangerously slippery roads and congested traffic jams all throughout the city.

That being said, Lower Merion High School's gymnasium dedication ceremony endured a 45-minute delay, because the man to whom it was being dedicated fell subject to the city's conditions. However, when Kobe Bryant finally arrived, the venue erupted...seemingly forgetting they had been waiting a while for this very moment.

Bryant's Lakers are in the middle of an Eastern swing that will put them on the Wells Fargo Center court against the 76ers tonight at 7pm.

But on yesterday evening, the focus was on the Lower Merion version of Bryant, the high school sensation who led the Aces to the 1996 PIAA state basketball championship and then skipped to the NBA June of that year.

Bryant, formerly of Wynnewood, donated $411,000 to fund the newly renovated facility - part of Lower Merion High School's newly completed $100 million campus, which opened this fall.

Fans - some of whom paid up to $250 a ticket to attend Thursday's ceremony - milled around high school halls decorated with photos and news clippings chronicling Bryant's standout senior season.

All of Thursday night's ceremony was dedicated to the growing legacy of Lower Merion's most famous alumnus: Bryant, a five-time NBA champion at age 32.

The list of speakers was wide-ranging, from Bryant's high school coach to his high school English teacher, Jeanne Mastriano.

Bryant's coach at Lower Merion, Gregg Downer, even pointed out one crucial, little-known, fact: that Bryant still wears his Lower Merion shorts under his Lakers shorts.

Bryant himself spoke only briefly, admitting that public speaking made him nervous.

"This is where I came from. This is where I grew up," Bryant said. "I didn't go to college. This is my university. This is where my memories lie."

Bryant concluded: "I'm going to calmly put myself out of my misery and slide back to my seat."

As a devout Philadelphia 76ers fan, I hope you feel the need to express those same exact words come the fourth quarter tonight!

Seriously, this is big. I hope the younger generation takes KB24's notion and realizes it for it's worth. What he does for his community, Alma Mater, and predecessors is not to be overlooked.

Video: Diddy-Dirty Money x Jimmy Kimmel

Diddy-Dirty Money stopped by Jimmy Kimmel‘s show last night and performed the Swizz Beatz produced cut “Ass On The Floor." The performance was pretty "tastic," so if you want to waste about 4 minutes and two seconds of your life...HERE. Afterward though, Sean “Diddy” Combs sat down for a one-on-one with Jimmy about not buying Christmas gifts and burning weaves at his launch party.

Check the interview after the JUMP.

Chrisette Michele Faces $20 Million Lawsuit

Chrisette Michele along with Def Jam made an attempt to get a $20 million lawsuit against them dismissed. To no avail. The group currently faces a lawsuit presented by Four Kings Production Inc. who claims Chrisette "engaged in unlawful activity to be released from her previous recording contract."

The charges are being filed by Four Kings Productions CEO, Douglas "Biggs" Ellison, against Chrisette Michele, Island Def Jam, A&R Shalik Berry and the singer's parents Lynette and Lemuel Payne.

After Michele claimed embezzling and harassment against Biggs, he made a statement about his feelings toward Michele's 2007 suit against him:

"As soon as the artist's mother saw that Chrisette was receiving money, all a direct result of the efforts of the production company under its contracts with the artist, Lynette Payne quit her job as a teacher and, in willful disregard of the artist's contractual obligations to Four Kings, usurped management functions regarding her daughter's newly found success, in an effort to keep the money in the family."

I hope this gets settled smoothly. We like Chrisette's music and wish her the best during this trying time.

We're Back #TeamBlackBerry!!!

Frankly, we've been getting trumped by the likes of the iPhone and Android (as of late). With all their applications, data speeds, and several other capabilities...we, RIM Blackberry nation, have been either patient and loyal, or anxious and "jumping ship."

With that said, I think we might be back with this move!

Grounded: Willow Smith

Little Miss "Whip My Hair," Willow Smith, may have let this sudden burst of fame get to her head. Her very well-known parents ordered shorty to avoid social networking sites; you know the regulars - MySpace, Facebook, Twitter...

Apparently, she was caught creating a personal MySpace page.

Now, if my mom starred in "two Matrix films" and my dad "was 6'4" 220lbs"...and mastered his Ali role...I probably wouldn't go against their ground rules. However, kids will be kids. But dig this, Jada Pinkett understands that...

Although Mrs. Smith admits she was extremely disappointed when the Willow set up a personal page on MySpace, she allowed Willow to pick her own punishment.

The actress tells Britain's Style magazine, "I told her not to, so I was so mad. I said, 'What do you think I should do now?' So Willow said, 'Mom, take my computer away'. And I said, 'How long for?' She said a month.

See you in a month Willow! Should I say Merry Christmas & Happy New Year now?

About This HIV Cure...

Timothy Ray Brown, an HIV-positive American currently residing in Germany, had been diagnosed with leukemia. While undergoing chemotherapy, he received a transplant of stem cells from a donor carrying an extremely RARE, inherited gene mutation. This RARE gene is believed to make carriers virtually immune to the fatal HIV infection.

While the successful transplant appeared to wipe out both diseases, giving hope to not only doctors, but patients, victims, and the general public, the procedure's primary physician, Dr. Anthony Fauci, also the director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who has been studying HIV/AIDS for almost 30 years, said "while this is an interesting proof of concept, it’s absurdly impractical."

Fauci also mentioned, while this patient is “functionally cured” this is not something you can do with every HIV-infected individual, in addition, Fauci also added to the fact that this transplant process is not only expensive, it’s incredibly painful and complicated, and requires the patient to start a whole new regimen of drugs.

So...you want to know why I stressed the word "RARE?" Here is an interesting statistic about the cell transplant, after locating a compatible donor:

Defect is only found in:

  • 1% of the Caucasian population
  • 0% percent of the African American population

If that isn't RARE at it's most RARE point...I'm not sure what is. Keep this in mind, just when you thought is was ok to go in, uncovered.

Big Chips: Bellagio Robbery

The Las Vegas Police department is on the hunt for an armed male who they report stole, at minimum, $1.5 million from the Las Vegas' Bellagio casino last night (or early this morning rather, around 3:50am) in chips, then jumped on his motorcycle and made a quick getaway...

Are you serious?!

Las Vegas police said a man wearing a leather jacket and a white motorcycle helmet parked his motorcycle in the valet section of the luxury hotel and casino, walked up to a craps table and drew a gun before clearing the table of chips.

So I guess, everybody just stood there and watched?

They watched enough to determine, after reviewing surveillance tapes, the suspect is a white male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 220 pounds. Authorities also believe he is the same suspect wanted in the Dec. 9 robbery of the Suncoast casino in Las Vegas.

Somebody call Danny Ocean...let him know there's competition out here.
