Android Smartphone and Tablet for Vizio?

Vizio, a company best known for its LCD TV products, has announced the launch of an Android-based smartphone and tablet! Safe to say, if you want to stay competitive in this industry, a dip into the tablet and droid-powered smartphone sector is the move!

Known as the Vizio "VIA Phone" and Vizio "VIA Tablet" (NOTE: both names still tentative), the devices offer a variety of features such as a 1 GHz processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, GPS, a MicroSD card slot, HDMI output with HD video playback, an IR blaster paired with a universal remote control app and a front-facing camera for video chats. Sound familiar much?

The VIA Phone comes with a 4-inch capacitive touch screen and a 5-megapixel camera. The tablet, on the other hand, has an 8-inch screen and three speakers that provide stereo sound in both portrait and landscape position. Sound familiar much...again?

Both devices are part of Vizio’s upcoming VIA Plus ecosystem, which should provide a unified experience across Vizio’s phone, tablet, HDTVs and Blu-ray players.

Although they’re both powered by Android, Vizio has not mentioned which specific version. We will be able to report more details later this week as Vizio plans to showcase the new devices at CES (Consumer Electronics Show).

My thoughts are Vizio will kill them on the price tag. They are known to have an established partnership with mass retailer, Wal*Mart and don't mind cutting costs to increase demand which in turn increases sales. What I also predict is, Vizio will be no match in the mobile processing or popularity category for the likes of the Samsung's new roll outs, Windows Phone 7, or the dominant iPhone and iPad.

Best Wishes though Vizio...
